What the data says in 2026
- AI writes most new code at frontier companies. Google's leadership has said the share of new code generated by AI rose from about a third in early 2025 to a majority through 2026, all reviewed by engineers. Microsoft reported 20 to 30 percent in 2025. Anthropic has said the large majority of code merged into its own production systems is now written by Claude, with its engineers merging several times more code per day than in 2024.
