Christmas marketing for a small business in 2026: the dates from Black Friday on 27 November to Small Business Saturday on 5 December and the last posting dates, the £93.76 billion forecast, twelve jobs an AI agent does in an afternoon with four prompts, the email numbers, gift voucher rules, delivery and returns law, and the hospitality figures.

Christmas Marketing for Small Businesses 2026: 12 Jobs an AI Agent Does in One Afternoon
Read in:

Almost two-fifths of British shoppers say October is when they normally start buying for Christmas, and VoucherCodes forecasts £93.76 billion of spending in the six weeks from mid-November to the end of December 2026, up 2.9% on last year at about £1,411 a person. The big retailers started their campaigns in September. A cafe, a shop, a maker or a salon with one owner and no marketing department has five weeks until Black Friday on 27 November and seven until Small Business Saturday on 5 December, and the usual plan is to do it in the evenings and run out of evenings.

This guide is the afternoon version of Christmas marketing for a small business: twelve jobs that move sales in December, done by an AI agent from four prompts, with the 2026 dates, the delivery and returns rules, the gift voucher law, the email numbers that decide where to spend the effort, and the hospitality figures for anyone with tables to fill. Everything was checked on 21 October 2026, and the plan at the end fits between lunch and the school run.

The 12 jobs, in four prompts

Before Black Friday

  1. The gift guide page: five to ten products or services grouped by who they are for and what they cost, on your own site.
  2. The bundles: two or three sets at a round price, because a £45 set is easier to buy than three separate items.
  3. The Christmas offer: one offer, with an end date, written so the headline price includes every mandatory charge.
  4. The gift voucher page: digital vouchers that can be bought at 11 pm on 24 December, with clear terms.

Message to send

Build a Christmas gift guide page on my site for Hollow Oak Candles: five products with photos and prices (Fig and Cedar £24, Sea Salt £24, Winter Spice £26, gift set of three £62, wax melts £8), grouped as "under £10", "under £30" and "the big one", plus a digital gift voucher in £10, £25 and £50 amounts with a 2-year validity shown on the page. Add a bundle called "The Winter Box" at £45 with two candles and a pack of melts. Show delivery cost and the last posting dates on the page. No fake countdowns and no invented reviews.

You create a free account first (an email address is all it takes, no card). Your message is kept and sent the moment you are in.

The first two weeks of December

  1. The email sequence: three emails to your own customers, each with one message, sent under the soft opt-in rules with an unsubscribe link.
  2. The social posts: one a day for the fortnight, from the gift guide, with the photos you already have.
  3. Google Business Profile: special hours for the bank holidays, a post with the gift guide link, and the Small Business Saturday post.
  4. The in-store moment: a Small Business Saturday offer, a QR code on the counter to the gift guide, and a voucher display by the till.

Message to send

Write three Christmas emails to my existing customers, sent Tuesday 25 November, Tuesday 2 December and Tuesday 16 December: the gift guide with the Winter Box, the Small Business Saturday weekend with a free gift wrap offer, and the last posting dates with the vouchers as the late option. Short, warm, one call to action each, my usual sign-off, an unsubscribe link in every one, and only to customers who bought from me and were offered an opt-out. Also draft 14 Instagram captions from the gift guide, one a day from 1 December, and the Google Business Profile post for Small Business Saturday.

You create a free account first (an email address is all it takes, no card). Your message is kept and sent the moment you are in.

The last week

  1. The delivery cut-off banner on the shop, switching to vouchers after the last posting date.
  2. The Christmas opening hours everywhere at once: Google, the site, the door, the voicemail.

Message to send

Set my Google Business Profile special hours for 24 to 28 December and 31 December to 1 January from this list, put the same hours on the site footer and the contact page, write the voicemail script, and from 22 December change the shop's top banner to "Last posting date passed: gift vouchers arrive by email in minutes" with a link to the voucher page.

You create a free account first (an email address is all it takes, no card). Your message is kept and sent the moment you are in.

After Christmas

  1. The January offer and the returns page: the 14-day cancellation right explained in plain words, your extended Christmas returns if you offer them, and the January email.
  2. The review ask and the thank-you: a message to every December customer in the first week of January asking for a Google review, with the link.

Message to send

Write the returns page for Christmas: online orders can be cancelled for any reason within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, we extend this for gifts bought from 1 November so they can be returned until 31 January, personalised items are excluded, faulty items can be rejected for a full refund within 30 days. Then write the January email with a 15% sale on the Winter Box and a thank-you message to every December customer asking for a Google review with my review link, sent 5 January.

You create a free account first (an email address is all it takes, no card). Your message is kept and sent the moment you are in.

Four prompts, one afternoon, and the agent sends the emails and posts on the dates you set, switches the banner on 22 December, and sends the January messages while you are closed. The free plan covers a small shop on 100 credits a day; the Go plan at £7 a month hosts the gift guide and the shop on your own domain with 2,000 credits a month.

The numbers that decide where the effort goes

  • Your own list beats paid ads in December. Lebesgue's analysis of $22.6 million of Meta spend, published on 16 October 2026, found the median brand's cost per thousand impressions in Black Friday week was 59% higher than in September, and GeistM tracked an 11% rise in late November 2025. Meanwhile Klaviyo's benchmarks show automated email flows getting a 5.58% click rate against 1.69% for one-off campaigns and about 18 times the revenue per recipient, and Omnisend's 2026 report found automations were 2% of emails sent but 30% of email revenue. Mailjet counted 20.4 billion emails in Cyber Week 2025 with a 13% open rate, which is why the three emails above each carry one message and a reason to open.
  • Local spending is a real pool. Small Business Saturday's own survey put £634 million spent with small businesses on the day in 2024 by more than 10 million shoppers, and ahead of the 2025 event Britons planned to spend 22% of their festive budgets with independents, about £5.3 billion. Older research by the Federation of Small Businesses and the Centre for Local Economic Strategies found 63p of every pound spent with a local independent is re-spent locally, against 40p for a larger firm.
  • Shoppers start early and finish early. Almost two-fifths start in October, and an eBay Advertising survey of 2,001 UK adults in July 2025 found 27% intend to finish before Black Friday. The gift guide goes live now, not on 1 December.

Gift vouchers done right

There is no statutory minimum validity for a gift voucher in the UK; Which? confirmed in December 2024 that no regulation sets one, and most retailers give at least two years while some give twelve months. The terms must still be fair and clear under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, so put the expiry on the voucher itself and on the page, not in a footnote. For VAT, a single-purpose voucher (where the VAT rate and the place of supply are known when it is sold) has VAT due when it is issued, while a multi-purpose voucher has VAT due when it is redeemed, a rule that has applied since 1 January 2019. A digital voucher that arrives by email in minutes is the product that sells on 24 December, when the parcels have stopped.

Delivery and returns at Christmas

Unless you agree a date with the customer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires delivery within 30 days of the order, so the cut-off banner is both a sales tool and a legal safeguard. Online orders can be cancelled for any reason within 14 days of delivery, with 14 more days to send the goods back; Citizens Advice calls 14 days the absolute minimum. Extending returns to the end of January for gifts is common and voluntary, not required by law, and it is worth stating on the page because it removes the buyer's main worry about a gift bought in November. Since 6 April 2025 every mandatory charge must be in the headline price and fake reviews are banned, so the "was £30, now £24" line must be true and the five-star quotes must be real.

For cafes, pubs and restaurants

December 2025 was a mixed month for hospitality: the CGA RSM tracker put like-for-like sales up 2.9% overall, with pubs up 5.1% and restaurants up 0.8%. Dojo's booking data showed the week beginning 8 December taking 34% of festive bookings, an average three-course Christmas menu of £36, and Christmas Day bookings up 4%. The jobs for a venue are the same twelve with the gift guide swapped for a party menu and a bookings page with a deposit, which the booking system guide covers, and the AI for restaurants and cafes post covers the rest of the year.

How an AI agent differs from a scheduling app

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Manus and Meta's Muse will all write a Christmas email if you ask. Jobbit runs the season:

  • It builds the gift guide and the voucher page on your own site and keeps the prices and dates right.
  • It sends the emails and the posts on the dates you set, to the customers you are allowed to email.
  • It changes the banner and the hours on the day, including the ones you forgot.
  • It takes the voucher payments through your own Stripe, SumUp or Square account.
  • It writes to the law: headline prices with every charge in, real reviews, the 14-day right in plain words.
  • It sends the January thank-you and the review ask while you are still closed.

A one-afternoon plan

  • 1 pm. List your five best products or services, the prices, and one bundle. Run prompt 1. Check the page on your phone.
  • 2 pm. Run prompt 2. Read the three emails once and change anything that does not sound like you.
  • 3 pm. Run prompt 3 with your opening hours. Print the counter QR code to the gift guide.
  • 3:30 pm. Run prompt 4. Decide the returns window and put it on the page.
  • 4 pm. Tell the agent the send dates, the banner date and the review link, and close the laptop.

Build the gift guide and the three emails on the free plan: 100 credits a day, no card.

Frequently asked questions

When should a small business start Christmas marketing?

Now. Almost two-fifths of UK shoppers start in October and 27% plan to finish before Black Friday, which falls on 27 November in 2026. A gift guide live in October catches the early buyers, the emails run from late November, and vouchers carry the last week after Royal Mail's last posting dates.

What are the last posting dates for Christmas 2026?

Royal Mail's recommended dates for 2026 are Friday 18 December for 2nd Class, Saturday 19 December for Tracked 48, Monday 21 December for 1st Class and Tracked 24, and Wednesday 23 December for Special Delivery Guaranteed. Check Royal Mail's Christmas page before you publish a banner, because the dates move slightly each year.

Can I email my customers about Christmas offers without consent?

You can email people who bought from you, or negotiated a sale, about similar products or services if they were given a clear chance to opt out when you collected their details and in every message: the soft opt-in under PECR, as the ICO describes it. It does not cover prospects or bought lists. Companies and LLPs can be emailed without consent, with a valid opt-out address.

Do gift vouchers have to be valid for a minimum time?

No. UK law sets no minimum validity, so the term you set is the term, as long as it is fair and clearly shown. Most retailers give at least two years. VAT on a single-purpose voucher is due when it is sold; on a multi-purpose voucher it is due when it is redeemed.

Do I have to accept Christmas returns in January?

Online orders can be cancelled within 14 days of delivery by law, and in-store purchases carry no change-of-mind right unless you offer one. Extending returns to the end of January is voluntary, common, and worth stating because it reassures gift buyers. Faulty goods can be rejected for a full refund within 30 days whatever the season.

Is it worth running ads in December?

Meta ad prices rise sharply around Black Friday: Lebesgue measured the median brand's cost per thousand impressions at 59% above September levels in Black Friday week. For a small business the better return is usually its own list and its own Google Business Profile, which is where the twelve jobs above put the effort. An agent on Jobbit runs those channels on a schedule.

Can an AI agent run my Christmas marketing?

It can build the gift guide and voucher page on your site, write and send the emails and posts on the dates you set, update the hours and the delivery banner, take voucher payments through your own card account, and send the January thank-you and review requests. You decide the offer, the prices and the tone. Start on the free plan at Jobbit with 100 credits a day.
